Earlier this week our finisher had a pump blow up, and I mean blow up. No one was hurt but it did some pretty good damage to the shop. Thankfully the damage was in an area that didn’t have any furniture in it. Because of the loss of the pump and damage to the shop our finisher is about a week behind.
We thank you for understanding and are very happy to hear that no one was injured.
As many people realize the Amish are not big fans of most of the modern conveniences. This does vary depending on the Church they belong to, but in this case our finisher is of the old order variety. Read as very conservative Amish. (yup even they have liberals and conservatives). Because he is old order he uses propane to light the rooms in the finish shop (not where they are actually spraying the finish though). As for sprayers and the ventilation system electricity is a must. He uses a diesel generator for that.
Recently we discovered that the oil we recommend use to polish & preserve Amish furniture was discontinued. This is very unfortunate because it worked great and was non-toxic.
Obviously we’re trying to find a good alternative that works just as well and is green. Once we do we’ll let you know
An Amber Alert has been issued for a 2-year-old girl who disappeared from Southfield at 1:15 a.m. today.
Police were not releasing the girl’s name, Michigan State Police Sgt. Greg Jones said this morning. But the girl, about 35 pounds and 3 feet tall with braids with pink and white beads, was last seen with 21-year-old Dekevin Dorsey, Jones said.
Dorsey, last seen wearing a red long-sleeve shirt, is driving a silver Chevrolet Impala with license plate number BNK 1915. About 6 feet tall and 165 pounds, Dorsey has a teardrop tattoo on his face.
I just came across a story that doesn’t surprise me. A chinese baby furniture manufacturer was using internationally protected species of wood to make it’s furniture. They were fined $40,000 and made to take out advertising in china and the united states telling other manufacturers about its actions and the consequences.
This is just another case that the chinese don’t particularly care about what they’re doing or the consequences as long as it’s bringing in money.
Poisonous toys, cutting down endangered species of trees, horrendous conditions in factories, cheap – bordering on slave – labor. When are people finally going to wake up to the fact that this is what we as a country are supporting when we buy products made in china.
Amish Direct Furniture is proud to be a part of tonight’s show at 8 pm on ABC.
As business owners we feel that helping those in need in our community is the only right thing to do. When ever we have large sales, like our tent sale in september we always have something going on for some sort of charity. This year we have made donations to the humane society and extreme makeover home edition. Both are very worthy causes that really do a tremendous job with their work.
We commend all that feel charity is important and all that have made it their lifes work.

We have finally been able to track down a whole bunch of mission furniture plans. So many in fact that there are 3 pdf’s that you can download and use. These plans are free. We will also be adding them to out site one by one that way you can get an idea of the way the plans are laid out.
The plans are definitely not for the beginner. They will require some knowledge of basic woodworking principles but they are not hard to follow at all. In the pdf’s you’ll find plans and material lists for morris chairs, writing desks, rockers, dining chairs and all kinds of other mission furniture from bookcases to lamps.
All the plans follow the construction techniques and standards of the Arts and Crafts movement making them very strong and assuming you choose your wood properly and put everything together right the furniture is sure to last you a lifetime.
I’m putting together a pdf on properly caring for your furniture and need to know what questions you have so I can answer them. If you send me an email with your questions in it or leave them here as a comment I will send you a copy of it when it’s done. Just make sure and include your name and email address. The more questions I get the better I can make it so please no matter what question is let me know.
We have finally moved our site to a much better platform. It’s much easier to get around our site now with all kinds of cool features that our other website didn’t have. Take a look around and I think you’ll see it’s alot easier find the information you need about our furniture.
