When the door to each shelf is opened does the door slide back when it's perpendicular to the bookcase? Or, does the door remain open and it must be held open?

In the case of barrister bookcases, the door would open vertically toward the top, then when opened up to become flat, has a recessed area you would slide the door into up to the point the knob stops it. So there will be a small overhang (not fully pushed in) from when the knob collides with the rest of the framing of the bookcase.
Unfortunately, there isn't a picture I can show you of this bookcase with the beveled glass option.
