Houston Writers Desk features a handcrafted solid wood frame with clean lines, sturdy legs, and a single central drawer for streamlined writing tasks.

  • *Drawer Glides

    Standard with side mounted full extension drawer glides. Standard glides require manually closing the drawer fully into the frame. Soft-close glides smoothly retract drawers into place with a gentle push.

  • *Kneehole Space

    Standard with a 24 ½" wide kneehole space. Available with extra 5" added to kneehole space. Adding 5" will increase overall width.

    Available with either a pencil drawer or keyboard pullout.

    *Drawer Box

    Standard with wooden drawer box. Available with double USB port charging station with non-slip mat in pencil drawer.

    Distressing

    Distressing is a mixture of different techniques to create the look of antique furniture that has aged naturally into a beautifully patina.  

    Top Coat

    Our top coat is standard with Formaldehyde however you can request for a Formaldehyde free top coat. Formaldehyde free top coats are not bonded as well and are considered weaker than our standard top coat.

    Sheen

    Standard top coat is 30 sheen (semi-gloss). Available with your choice sheen level.

    Note: The natural oils from your hands can rebuff parts of the top coat making it glossy again on lower sheens.

  • Precision cut mortise and tenon joints ensure solid, durable structural integrity.
  • Finished in our Standard Catalyzed Varnish. With this type of finish, your furniture is sealed in a durable coat that will last for years.
  • 1 ⅛" solid top.
  • Pencil drawer.
  • Finished back side.
  • 24 ½" kneehole space with pencil drawer.
  • Only available in Rough Sawn Wormy Maple.

CARE OF SOLID WOOD FURNITURE

  • Place your furniture away from radiators, fireplaces, and heating ducts.
  • Position furniture out of direct sunlight or adjust blinds to avoid hour after hour of direct sunlight.
  • Control humidity to 40%–45%. In winter use a humidifier, in summer use a dehumidifier or air conditioner.
  • Avoid using nail polish remover, alcohol, and other solvents near or on furniture.
  • Dust carefully with a soft cloth, following the grain pattern of the wood. Use an old T-shirt, baby diaper or cheesecloth that has been laundered to remove the sizing.

ROUTINE CLEANING AND CARE

  • Dust often to remove everyday abrasive particles from wood surfaces.
  • Consider cleaning with a mild non-alkaline soap and water. Use the suds in a damp sponge or cloth, but be sure to pre-test the solution on an out-of-sight section to make sure it doesn’t damage the finish. Dry immediately with a soft cloth and buff lightly, following the grain.
  • Don't wax or use any polish that contains any silicones! Catalyzed heat and moisture resistant finishes don’t need additional polish, but if you want to use a polish we recommend Parker & Bailey's Furniture Cleaner.
