Amish Cooking: The Tastes of Townline

The Amish are skilled craftsmen but they are also skilled chiefs. From pastries to desserts, the Amish put their own spin on classic meals. There are a few of our builders that offer their recipes to the general public. One such book is Tastes of Townline. In their recipe book, they offer over 150 pages worth of recipes. We are going to share one of our personal favorites.

Easy Homemade Oreo Cookie Ice Cream

The ingredients you’re going to need are:

• 3 egg yolks
• 1 (14 oz.) can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk
• 2 tablespoons of water
• 4 teaspoons of vanilla
• 1 cup of coarsely-chopped Oreo Cookies
• 2 cups of whipped cream

Take the egg yolks and beat them in a large bowl. Afterward you’ve beaten the egg yolks, stir in the Eagle Brand milk, water, and vanilla. Fold in cookies and whipped cream. Pour into a 2-quart container. Cover it and freeze for 6 hours, or until it’s firm. There you have it! Easy homemade Oreo cookie ice cream. The Tastes of Townline recipe book is available for $15.
